Amethyst is a stone that has been used for thousands of years and was once thought to be as precious as a diamond, unlike today where it is now classed as 'semi-precious'. The name is derived from the Greek work 'ametithhos', which means 'non intoxicated' which is taken from an old folk lore where it says amethyst will prevent drunkenness, therefore many goblets were set with faceted pieces of the stone.
It is also has properties similar to Rose Quartz, helping to calm the mind and give the user a peaceful nights sleep. It is a common stone that lovers will give to each other to help 'keep the love alive' and it will help increase creativity and passion.
There are many are properties and folk lore about Amethyst, too long to list here, but makes quite an interesting read.
